O. Brown, who lives at Melstone Manor and acts as a thorn in the side of his landlord, Andrew Brandon Hope, has a disagreeable snarling man who guards his yard and the nearby woods from intrusions, with the help of a similarly snarling dog. His master refuses to tell Andrew any name other than "Security" by which to refer to the man. He seems to be dangerous, hostile, and strange, much like his employer.
