In the novel Drowned Ammet, Hadd is the cruel and tyrannical ruler of South Dalemark, and the person whom protagonist Mitt most wants to kill. Earl Hadd has evicted Mitt's family from their farm after doubling the rent, and they are forced off the land and into a horrible and crowded place in the city, with no good way to earn their living. Mitt tries a foolish plan involving assassinating Hadd during the annual Sea festival, but things go horribly wrong, and thereby set in motion the events of this novel.
