Titus, Emperor of the South, in making the decision to move against his rebellious Senate before they succeed in moving against him, puts his faith in General Agricola, who is an older, senior, Army veteran still loyal to his emperor.

When Titus sends for Agricola (whose name means "farmer" in Latin) and mentions some of the specific actions he has already taken, and suggests a few that he would like, with Agricola's help, to take, he makes the older man extremely happy.

Agricola is able to give Titus information on which of his legions are loyal to him, and which to the Senate.  He also works with the royal scribes and Treasurer's office to carry out Titus' various directives, enabling Titus to ride off to the University to see to his sister's safety.
